Have A 2x4 Running Perpendicular To Garage Roof Rafters
I can see a break in the truss under one of the joint plates.
Have a 2x4 running perpendicular to garage roof rafters. It is unnecessary at this point for the same reason you can t move the mis spaced truss to where it should be. I do not have engineered trusses. Visit the roof framing page for more information on cutting roof rafters and visit the roof pitch calculator for determining rafter lengths based on rise and run. I did some calculations lastnight and came up with 4 6 lbs psf.
Ceiling joists are 2x6 but 4 on center rafters are 2. Would sistering 2x4 s in one 12 and two 8 sections all glued and screwed be enough to make it safe for storage. When you have ceiling joists running perpendicular to the rafters you typically need rafter ties often installed 4 feet on center. He also put a few braces from the joist to the rafters to keep the rafters from swaying.
The span is 28. The builder tied the rafters together by running two 2x4 s perpendicular to the rafters about three feet from the top of the ridge board running the length of the roof. It has an a frame roof. The 2x4 perpindicular to the rafters is there to space the rafters or trusses apart prior to the roof being sheeting being installed.
I suppose i could add more but with the span across the garage they would have to be tied in to the rafters like the existing ones are which ultimately adds the load to the rafters still. It is possible the roof is supported by a structural beam instead of mere ridge board then you may not need the rafter ties. Hey guys i have a 16x24 shop ive built that needs a roof but im running low on cash i m wondering if 2x4 rafters with a 2x6 beam will be strong enough to hold a roof with 4 12 pitch asphalt shingles 7 16 osb and felt paper.
